Smoker’s Lines

Smoker’s lines, or lipstick lines, are the vertical creases and lines that form on and above the lips.

What are smoker’s lines?

Smoker’s lines, or lipstick lines, are the vertical creases and lines that form on and above the lips. Despite their name, you don’t have to be a smoker to get them. These unsightly lines are caused by a variety of factors, such as genetics, age, repetitive lip movements and yes, cigarette smoking.

Age and repetitive, regular lip movement are obviously impossible to avoid, making these lines inevitable. For those who wear lipstick, these lines are noticeable when lipstick “bleeds” into the wrinkles. Just because these lines are inevitable, it doesn’t mean they aren’t treatable. Injectables that use neuromodulators can relax the muscles above your lips and cause your skin to look much smoother and healthier.

What treatments does Nouveau Medspas provide?

At Nouveau Medspas in Gig Harbor, WA, Dr. Rubin uses BOTOX Cosmetic and Xeomin to treat smoker’s lines. Xeomin and BOTOX Cosmetic are neuromodulators that limit muscle movement. With reduced muscle activity in a treated area, your current wrinkles will fade and new lines will be put on hold.* Repeated treatments will be necessary to keep up with the wrinkles that come back or form. Juvéderm Volbella is a dermal filler that can be injected into the lip area to smooth out these unsightly lines.  If the idea of a longer needle makes you feel uneasy, AquaGold fine touch can also revitalize your skin.* Instead of using one long needle, AquaGold uses 24 tiny needles to add BOTOX Cosmetic and dermal fillers to the face. It provides all of the benefits of a facial and so much more.

If you’d like to address your smoker’s lines, schedule a consultation with Dr. Rubin. She will discuss your skin care concerns with you and will select the right treatment option for you.
